perfect human-ness
A beautiful part of being human is our ability to feel. Life events cause us to feel joy, pain and a myriad of emotions in between. All humans experience these emotions, yet experience them with different levels of intensity, which trigger physical responses in our bodies. This delicate blend of physical and emotional feeling- so unique in every individual- is a beautiful part of our life: our perfect human-ness.

Violin, composed and performed by Marie Veschusio, 2018
As my heartache and grieving changed, I knew it was critical that I remain aware of what I was experiencing and reflect on that. I began documenting my emotions in the form of a musical staff-like chart, noting the date, the fluctuation in my feelings and how frequently I felt these ways. The highs and lows of our lives are what make us who we are, and this was a way to see something that was otherwise intangible. I then transposed my notations into sheet music to be performed once, live for this exhibition, on my violin. We feel in many ways, by seeing and touching, but also by listening. That’s what so much of this life is all about: feeling—feeling everything. The music has not been traditionally composed or manipulated by me: I simply play exactly what was experienced, imperfections in the composition (or lack thereof) and all. It shows what makes us so perfectly human.
